In response to high demand, increasing public use of this directory, and its rising prestige as a reliable source of information for consumers, we have begun using this application form for new e-therapy sites to be listed in the Metanoia E-Therapy Directory. Although the application is somewhat detailed, it is necessary to insure the continued quality of this site. The application consists of about 45 questions and should take about 25 minutes to complete, if you choose to complete it in full.

Please read the following instructions:

• I recommend that you print the application, and fill it out off-line first. It will be helpful to collect license numbers, telephone numbers, and other info.

• Some of the questions might give you ideas for modifications to your website. You may wish to make modifications to your site before you come back to complete the application.

• When reviewing your site, we will give you a higher rating if you provide adequate information on your site to prospective e-patients, so that they can verify your identity and credentials in advance, before they decide whether or not to initiate contact with you: exactly what your credential is, and exactly who gave it to you.
  • Adequate: "Psychologist licensed by the state of Maryland."
  • Adequate: "Pastoral psychotherapist certified by AAPC."
  • NOT adequate: "Experienced counselor." (what kind? says who?)
  • NOT adequate: "Licensed psychologist." (licensed where? by whom?)
  • NOT adequate: "John Q. Therapist, XYZ" (what do the letters mean?)

• You are not required to fill in any of the information on the application. However, the more information you give us:
  • the better your rating will be
  • the sooner your site will get listed
  • you will be providing us with valuable statistical information about the e-therapy field.

• The application form can be used for a new application, or for updates, or to apply for a Credential Check.

• When completing the application, please give us some help with acronyms. Please provide the abbreviation for your degree or credential, AND spell it out for us. Example: "LMFT, Licensed Marriage-Family Therapist"

• We acknowledge other professional credentials in addition to a U.S. state-issued "license". Even if your credential is atypical, feel free to make a case for your qualifications. Generally, we look for a credential that includes a requirement for supervised clinical training in psychotherapy, and continuing professional accountability to the issuing body.

CREDENTIAL VERIFICATION: We offer three levels:

-- Full Credential Check: $39.95. This is the best way to give prospective e-patients confidence about your identity and qualifications. Information will be e-mailed to you after you complete the application.

-- Regular Credential Check: free, if you complete all information on the application.

-- No Credential Check: if important information on the application is left blank, you will be listed "not rated" until you provide verifiable information.

STAR RATINGS are awarded after we visit your site, based on several factors which you can read about here.

When you are approved for the directory, you may be authorized to display an official Metanoia seal-of-approval graphic on your site. Information will be e-mailed to you.
